Year 8 Gardening Club
In the first week of March we planted potatoes and garlic in the school garden. We used trays and filled them with compost. Then we shed the outer layers of garlic and separated it into the smaller cloves. We placed them in the trays and covered them with soil. We have decided to grow them in the green house first and then plant them outside when they have grown to a certain height.
Before we planted the potatoes we turned the soil in our garden plot to get all of the weeds out. We used string to measure where we were to plant the potatoes and trowels to dig deep holes 30cm apart to put the potatoes in. After placing the potatoes into the holes we covered the potatoes with soil.
By the end of this term we are hoping to grow onions from sets and carrots from seed. We will then transfer these, along with the garlic into our school garden plot.
